👁️✨ A drop of science is replacing a pair of glasses.

New research presented at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) suggests that specially formulated eye drops may be a safe, non-surgical alternative to reading glasses for age-related farsightedness, also known as presbyopia.

🔬 In a study of 766 patients, drops combining pilocarpine (to gently constrict the pupil and sharpen focus) and diclofenac (to ease inflammation and discomfort) helped restore near vision. Within just an hour, most participants could read two or more lines better on the Jaeger eye chart. Even more remarkable—the effect lasted up to two years with continued use.

✅ Results:

• 99% of patients using the lowest-dose formula achieved clear near vision.

• Higher doses worked best for those with advanced presbyopia.

• Side effects were mild (temporary dim vision, slight irritation, or headache).

• Importantly, no serious complications like retinal detachment occurred.

📌 While larger multi-center studies are still needed, these findings point toward a future where eye drops—not glasses or surgery—may become the go-to solution for millions struggling with reading vision.
