This juvenile Red Tailed Hawk was perched on a branch, scanning an empty corn field, yesterday in Baltimore County. It does not yet have its deep orange/red tail feathers. Quite a beautiful face.

Often difficult to photograph, Kingfishers tend to fly away when they perceive your presence. This female was on the other side of the Gunpowder River, and I was tucked behind some bushes. She was pretty far away, and this image is cropped. I consider myself fortunate when I can watch a Kingfisher without scaring it away.

I photographed this Red Headed Woodpecker at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. I think they are among the most beautiful woodpeckers, with their ruby red head, and the black and white patterns on their chest and wings.
