Demolition of the Harford Mall's former Macy's storefront began Tuesday as crews started work on Phase 3 of a six-phase redevelopment project that will transform the aging shopping center into The Shops at Harford, a mixed-use complex featuring a 35,000-square-foot Whole Foods, boutiques, restaurants, apartments and office space.

The first tenants are expected to open in spring 2028. The renovations will also add a parking garage, residential buildings and a fitness center.
