We’re so proud of our Entrepreneurship 10.0 alumn Janie!

Maryland’s plans for a prerelease center for incarcerated women stalled. Why? 03/15/2026

We are incredibly proud to see Monica Cooper continue to elevate her voice and impact across Maryland. As the inspiration behind the Monica Cooper Prerelease Act, her advocacy shines a critical light on the need for equitable reentry services and support for incarcerated women transitioning back into our communities. Efforts surrounding the bill highlight the ongoing push for gender responsive prerelease resources that help women access housing, employment, education, and family reunification opportunities.

It was truly an honor to have Monica as a participant in the New Start Entrepreneurship 10.0 program, where her determination, leadership, and commitment to systemic change were evident. We remain excited to support her continued journey and future endeavors.

Keep pushing forward, Monica. Your work is creating pathways of hope and opportunity for so many.
Entrepreneurship 10.0

Maryland’s plans for a prerelease center for incarcerated women stalled. Why? Incarcerated women who are near the end of their sentences remain housed at the state women’s prison in Jessup, and advocates are pushing the state to open a facility to help these women prepare to return to their families and communities.

Grateful does not even begin to cover it.

Tonight, the New Start Entrepreneurship 10.0 cohort was blessed with wisdom, clarity, and real-world strategy from Aldo Barillas, consultant with the Maryland Small Business Development Center .

Aldo delivered a powerful presentation packed with practical guidance, honest insight, and information every serious entrepreneur needs to build smart and sustainable businesses. From understanding your B.A.I.L. team to navigating next steps with confidence, he gave our cohort tools they can use immediately.

What makes this even more special is consistency. Aldo or Monica always come through for every cohort, every time. They show up prepared, generous with their knowledge, and fully invested in the success of our entrepreneurs. That kind of commitment matters, and it never goes unnoticed.

Thank you, Aldo, for pouring into our New Start family. Your guidance continues to help our entrepreneurs move forward with purpose, strategy, and confidence. We truly appreciate you. Social & Economic Empowerment through Knowledge DrHeather Lamb-Battick Entrepreneurship 10.0
