I wear sunglasses all the time as a fashion statement. Am I hurting or helping my eye health?
โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ
Seems as if sunglasses have become an accessory that change with each outfit for both men and women.

Studies suggest that not wearing sunglasses could potentially enhance the skin's natural photoprotection mechanisms and promote the release of nitric oxide, which has numerous health advantages, including lowered blood pressure, improved immune system function, and enhanced wound healing.

Now for the upside!! Choosing a pair of sunglasses based on brand or style alone is not enough to get the most out of your shades.

When buying sunglasses, look for ones that are marked UV 400 or 99-100% UV absorption. This means they'll block both UVA and UVB sunrays.
Dark lenses are not necessarily better especially if they donโ€™t have UV protection.

Ground glass sunglasses are better than plastic because ground glasses donโ€™t distort your vision.
If you love to ski or surf, go ahead and choose large frames that wrap around your face.

โ˜€๏ธ You can see better in the sun
๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ Sunglasses protect us from harmful UV radiation with can diminish your eyesight
โ˜€๏ธ Protect us from glare when we are around water
๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ Protect the skin around our eyes

So go ahead and buy those expensive sunglasses however check the UV absorption before you wear them or you are only buying an expensive fashion accessory.

Protect Your Skin This Summer!! ๐ŸŒค๏ธ๐Ÿงด๐Ÿ˜Ž

Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. People of all skin colors are at risk for this damage!

You can reduce your risk by:
๐ŸŒž Limiting your time in the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sunโ€™s rays are most intense.
๐ŸŒž Wearing clothing to cover skin exposed to the sun, such as long-sleeve shirts, pants, sunglasses, and broad-brim hats.
๐ŸŒž Using broad spectrum sunscreens with an SPF value of 15 or higher regularly and as directed. (Broad spectrum sunscreens offer protection against both UVA and UVB rays, two types of the sunโ€™s ultraviolet radiation.)
๐ŸŒž Consulting a health care professional before applying sunscreen to infants younger than 6 months.

In general, the FDA recommends that you use broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, even on cloudy days!

In addition:
๐ŸŒž Apply sunscreen liberally to all uncovered skin, especially your nose, ears, neck, hands, feet, and lips (but avoid putting it inside your mouth and eyes).
๐ŸŒž Reapply at least every two hours. Apply more often if youโ€™re swimming or sweating. (Read the label for your specific sunscreen. An average-size adult or child needs at least one ounce of sunscreen, about the amount it takes to fill a shot glass, to evenly cover the body.)
๐ŸŒž If you donโ€™t have much hair, apply sunscreen to the top of your head or wear a hat.
๐ŸŒž No sunscreen completely blocks UV radiation. So other protections are needed, such as protective clothing, sunglasses, and staying in the shade.
๐ŸŒž No sunscreen is waterproof.
