D. Watkins is a gifted writer- introducing us to his memories through dialogue and making the experiences of life in east Baltimore conversational and relatable.

D. Watkins ate paint chips as a kid when there wasn't enough food in the house. But you wouldn’t know it because he glosses over these kind of details as his trajectory is one of continuously moving forward.
