Update on one of our favorite stories from this year's Fine Art collection.

Last week we shared the story of a watercolor of nesting seagulls signed by local artist Grace Shildmyer, who spent years working with the Sidney Art Gallery in Bremerton. While researching her work, one of our volunteers found a three year old post from her granddaughter, Lauren, hoping to track down any of her grandmother's art still out there. So instead of putting the painting up for bid, even though it was getting real interest (a watercolor this size is rare), we reached out and gave it to her.

Lauren sent us photos to share with the community: herself with the painting at home, one of her as a little girl with her grandma, and a wonderful photo of the two of them feeding seagulls together on the waterfront, the same birds she painted in the piece we had! She also made a donation back to Rotary in gratitude.

Her message to us summed it up better than we could:
"Thank you so much for your efforts!! It was so nice to see it in person and the little baby chick is so cute. We have found a good place for it and will cherish it!!!"

This is the part of Fine Art we don't put a price tag on. Thank you, Lauren, for letting us be part of getting a piece of your family's story back where it belongs.

Dear Youth Squad Leaders & Organizers,

The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island extends a heartfelt thanks to each of you for your incredible partnership during the 2026 Rotary Auction & Rummage Sale.

Your groups showed up in force throughout setup and cleanup, tackling every task with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a willingness to help wherever needed. Your volunteers made an enormous impact on the success of this year's event.

We're also excited to announce the winner of this year's $1,000 Youth Squad Grant for delivering the most volunteer shifts:

Thank you to everyone who participated in this friendly competition. Every volunteer shift mattered, and every group played an important role in helping us raise funds that will support countless community and international service projects in the coming year.
