100 million stadium bond! $252 Property Tax Increase

Just 18 months ago 2/3 of AZLE taxpayers soundly rejected an $80 million school bond filled with unneeded, wasteful spending. They’re back! The Azle School Board is back to shake the Money Tree—YOU, the Azle taxpayers—for over $100 million; much of it for unneeded, extra-curricular, ‘WANTS’ that YOU will have to pay for.

We’ve all seen the clear-cutting of land for subdivisions in Azle. It causes loss of trees, & deer habitat, and the need for more schools. There’s no escaping it. We will have to pay for more school capacity. Bond Proposition ‘A’ addresses the needs for classroom space and should be approved {$46.8 million}. Propositions ‘B’ {$41.8 Million} and ‘C’, {the stadium again, for $16.9 Million} include wasteful spending and should be rejected.

With people still reeling from the economic effects of Covid and the 2021 Freeze, it’s wrong for the school board to pack this bond with projects unrelated to school capacity. This bond addresses urgent needs (school capacity), and then buries them under a mountain of unnecessary spending. A board member has already stated that this bond, if fully approved, is only ‘catch-up’ and there will be more property tax increases (bonds) coming.

Turnout in springtime City and School Board Elections is notoriously low and Bonds usually pass. A few hundred pro-bond voters can raise everyone’s property taxes. Vote early (April 19-27) or on Saturday, May 1st. Wasteful spending drives rents up. If you’re over 65, vote against wasteful spending for your neighbors. Do it for the children! Today’s students are tomorrow’s property taxpayers. Don’t burden them with the costs of someone’s wish list. Your vote matters.
