🚒✨ Getting parade-ready.
In between responding to calls today, our members and some special helpers took time to give Ladder 12 and Tanker 20 a little extra attention before tonight’s Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 Parade in Unionville.
The hours you don’t always see are just as much a part of the volunteer fire service as the ones you do. From washing apparatus and checking equipment to training, maintenance, and preparation, our members take great pride in representing the Avon Volunteer Fire Department — whether responding to an emergency or participating in a community event.
Tonight’s parade is expected to be the final parade appearance for Ladder 12 (2001) and Tanker 20 (1997) before their retirements later this year. For decades, these apparatus have responded to emergencies, represented the department at community events, and stood ready whenever they were called upon.
If you’re in Unionville this evening, be sure to give our members — and Ladder 12 and Tanker 20 — a wave as they pass by.
