Though I have called Texas my home for the past fifteen years, my roots trace back to a small town you’ve likely never heard of, nestled next to a big city you definitely have. Mt. Rainier, Maryland, borders the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C., and my Grandma’s house on 37th Street was always home base, no matter where my travels took me.

Years ago, I stumbled upon a book by Joseph T. Howell that delves into the lives of two Southern immigrant working-class families living in Mt. Rainier. This book inspired me to write a tune about my hometown. I hope y’all enjoy it.
