1) Always pay on time
2) Pay at least the minimum due amount
3) Pay as much as you can each month
4) Try to pay off your credit card in full each month (you will save on paying interest by doinf this)
5) Set up automatic payments so you're never late (do this as a fail safe)
6) Set up text or email alerts to notify you of your balance and due date, if your card is being used, and how much is being spent.
7) Only use 10 - 15% of your credit limit (even if your paying it off the same week! It will report negativily if you go over the 10%
8) Monitor your credit report and correct any inaccuracies annually
9) Establish a long history of paying on time and using credit responsibly
10) Apply for new credit in moderation (in other words don't get new credit cards, use the ones you have or be added to a spouses credit card as long as they have always paid on time)
Having good credit means you have a record of paying your bills on time. It means you've shown you know how to manage your credit. Good credit may help you get better access to certain loans and credit cards and typically, lower interest rates too.
