Zed - Saxophone Quartet

What a wonderful time we just had performing in the 12th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and Festa in Osaka, Japan!

Thank you to the hosts of the Festa , and everyone involved in making this event so special. Throughout the duration of the competition we felt so loved, welcomed, and supported by all of the staff and hosts, thank you for making our visit to Osaka so amazing and thoughtful. Performing in Izumi Hall has been one of our great joys as a group, and we are so grateful to have been given that opportunity.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to help our fundraising for this trip!! We cannot thank you all enough for your support, with which we were able to use to help offset the costs of travel from the USA. To all who have supported Zed to help us even get to this point in our career, we thank you dearly and are so grateful.

Lastly, thank you to all of the folks we met during the competition! Every group who participated in the Festa has inspired us in so many ways. Through the Festa we were able to connect with so many incredible musicians who have inspired us in so many ways. Thank you all for being the best! And of course, a special shoutout to our good friends for taking home the gold!! You all absolutely killed it and are so deserving of your success, bravissimo!

Zed is extremely grateful to be competing in the Osaka Chamber Music Festa next month! We have dreamed of this moment since the inception of the group back in 2023. However, this opportunity also comes with high financial costs, including travel, lodging, and transportation fees.

What an amazing week we just had in Austin, TX! This past week Zed performed and concert used around the city as part of our 2026 Rainwater Grant proposal. Some highlights from the week include:

- Recording our very FIRST single, ofrenda for a friend by .drums. A huge shoutout to our recording engineer Elise, and our producer .saxophone!

- Music video recording of ofrenda for a friend, produced by none other than ! (the video looks SICK we’re so excited to share it)

- Performances at Barton Creek Elementary, Hill Country Middle, and Cedar Ridge High School. Thank you so much to all of rhe students for your wonderful attention, and to the teachers who made it possible!

- Finally, a guest artist recital at Austin Community College, where we did the world premiere of ofrenda for a friend.

It’s such a pleasure when we’re able to come back to Austin and share our music with the city, but how special it was to get to perform for so many young people. We’re so excited to share ofrenda for a friend with you all soon, coming to streaming platforms near you!

Next stop, OSAKA!

We had a blast performing for Barton Creek’s 3rd and 4th grade classes! Jacob is an alum of BCE (class of 2011!!)

The ZED Quarter was founded at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 2023. Today, they performed for 3rd and 4th grade BCE students.

This Saturday, Zed will be presenting a concert at Austin Community College as part of their Guest Artist Recital series. We’ll be performing works by Mackey, Bozza, Bresnick, Cuong, and Love. We’ll also be doing the World Premiere of Ivan Trevino’s (.drums) new work Ofrenda for a Friend.

We’ve been holding onto this one for a while… We’re so honored to announce our participation in the 12th Osaka International Chamber Music Festa! 💜

“The Osaka International Chamber Music Festa, which takes place alongside the competition, is open to ensembles of two to six players, with any combination of instruments and no age limitation. In addition to classical music, the Festa also welcomes traditional and folk music from around the world. This Festa is unique because its voting process is done by a crowd of music lovers.”

We’re very excited to represent the USA in this competition, being one of two groups from the USA chosen to compete in our division. We will perform in the first round of the competition in Mie Prefecture at the Mie Center for the Arts on May 9th at 10:30 AM Japan Standard Time.
