Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities

UTHealth Houston is leading a TCDD-funded project to develop an innovative, interdisciplinary training program at dental and medical schools to help expand access to oral healthcare and overall wellness for Texans with DD. Earlier this year, a project team attended a Special Olympics Texas soccer tournament to offer dental screenings, tooth-brushing kits, and oral health resources to competitors and their families. The project is part of a broader TCDD initiative to increase knowledge of the lived experience of people with DD and their families and to improve self-direction, accessibility, and effectiveness of health treatment and support for people with DD.

This month, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry presented its Local Hero Award to Andrew Crim, Chair of the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities.
The Local Hero Award recognizes individuals whose leadership, service, and advocacy have made a meaningful impact on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities within their communities and states. Our Council is honored to have Andy lead in our mission for independence and self-determination for all Texans with DD. Congratulations to our local hero!

Is being invited the same as being included? This video from Project LEAD explains the difference.
Project LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, and Self-Determination) offers leadership development and advocacy training for adults with DD to become effective self-advocates and community leaders. Coordinated by Texas Advocates, the TCDD-funded project promotes meaningful self-advocate participation on boards, taskforces, and other committees that affect disability policies.
