Derby was a true IDGAF moment for me.

I took up roller derby in my forties as my first sport ever.

At Fresh Meat training, they paired me with another rollergirl around my age.

I was having the freaking time of my life.

Meanwhile, she kept saying: "I'm too OLD for this!"

And I remember thinking: Really?

Because age hadn't even occurred to me. I was too busy being obsessed.

It felt bigger than age.
Bigger than my lack of athleticism.
Bigger than whether I looked ridiculous.

I just didn't give a f**k.

When you’re juking and skating your face off, you’re too lit up to worry about bulls**t identity markers … like age.
