Natural light changes how a kitchen feels, and how it functions.
In this Tarrytown remodel, the architect repurposed an underutilized playroom and gave the kitchen a generous new footprint in a part of the home that already had beautiful daylight. And the best part is that the windows and that detailed sloped ceiling were already here. They are not just “nice details.” They shape the experience of the room.
From multiple viewpoints, you can see how evenly the light moves through the space. It travels across the island and work surfaces instead of pooling in one corner, which keeps the room feeling open even when the day gets busy.
Then we layered in materials that know how to behave in bright spaces. White oak cabinetry with quiet warmth. Lightly leathered quartzite that reflects without glaring. And an organic-meets-modern pendant that feels intentional, but never loud.
That balance is the goal. A kitchen should have presence, but it should also feel easy to live in all day, every day.
If you’re dreaming about how to make the most of the natural light in your home, we’d love to help you explore a few ideas!

Spring is here, so naturally we’re all thinking about flowers.
We love using floral motifs because they do two things at once:
1. bring the outdoors inside, adding both organic texture and visual interest to a space
2. give a room a distinct personality (while also helping tie together a color palette)
Whether used in a powder bath, a breakfast nook, or a bedroom, the right floral pattern can truly define the space, be it delicate and tonal or bold and bright. Here are just a few examples of floral wallpapers from some past interior design projects we’ve completed here in the Austin, TX area.
Which one would you choose for your own space? Let us know in the comments.
