Tomorrow is the big day! Just a couple more UT composers on the program to introduce. Let’s meet…Kirsten!

Illinois-bred, Austin-based musician Kirsten Townander is a composer, educator, and flautist. Her artistic work is fueled by her love of story-telling, passion for human connection, and appreciation for her multidisciplinary background, which spans the disciplines of theatre, dance, and—of course—music. Whenever possible, Kirsten seeks to bridge gaps between these often “separate” art forms and foster spaces for performers to embrace creativity in bold ways. Kirsten is currently pursuing her M.M. in Composition at UT Austin.

At this concert, we will hear the premiere of Kirsten’s new work, “Consume!”, a song about rampant consumerism in the United States. She describes the song as taking “a light approach to an undeniably dark topic—featuring sarcastic lyrics, silly ostinati, and common consumerist items used as found percussion instruments. All of this theatrical mayhem is underscored by an ambient audio recording of self-checkout kiosk sounds.”

Please see our concert info below. Can’t wait to see you there!

Event time:
Monday, March 31st @ 7:30pm

Attention! Exciting news incoming!

In just 5 days, CLUTCH will be presenting its first concert of the spring semester—but this one’s a little different than usual...

Hosted at Austin’s own KMFA radio station, this concert is being put on in collaboration with the one-of-a-kind, San Francisco-based duo, The Living Earth Show (guitarist Travis Andrews & percussionist Andy Meyerson), as well as stunning performer-composer and songwriter, Tanner Porter. The program will feature works by esteemed composers Robert Honstein, Akshaya Tucker, and Jacob Cooper—plus new works by five of UT’s own student composers.

Needless to say…it’s going to be a memorable evening! Stay tuned for more info coming soon.
