Happy Independence Day! Today represents so much; fireworks, parades, family and community! But today also represents a celebration of people’s efforts to earn and keep freedom; a struggle that continues to this day. Happy 4th!

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
