Following the tragic Guadalupe flood, a coalition of landowners, volunteers, and organizations launched a bold effort to restore their cherished river. “Hope for the Guadalupe” bears witness to the heartbreaking disaster and showcases the conservationists working to replant native trees, spread grasses and forbs, and bring peace and beauty to a beleaguered river.

We will be hosting benefit screenings with Q&As in Austin (5/12), Kerrville (5/14), San Antonio 5/15), Dallas (5/19), and Houston (5/21), with a live performance from at our Kerrville screening. Proceeds from the screening will benefit river restoration efforts. Additional community screenings will be announced soon, followed by a digital and broadcast release in June.

Arrest made over illegal dumping into the Trinity River.

Texas’ biggest illegal riverine dumping site in recent memory has finally gotten into the crosshairs of law enforcement following the arrest of a previously convicted felon in Dallas, whom complainants, including the Texas Rivers Protection Association, had been warning regulators about for months – others, for years.

Texas communities can apply for grant funding to implement active watershed protection plans that increase strategic tree placement through the Watershed Protection Plan Implementation grant. This grant will support up to 15 grants over five years.

Applications for the grant will be accepted through Nov. 30, 2025. Applicants must provide nature-based solutions that increase the strategically placed tree cover and protect water quality while increasing access to urban tree canopy and associated health, environmental and economic benefits.

In response to the devastating July 2025 floods, partners across the Hill Country have joined forces to support riparian restoration in Kerr County. Together, with local leaders, we hosted three workshops in Center Point, Ingram, and Kerrville—engaging more than 300 residents in conversations on debris management, riparian restoration, and long-term recovery.

Key takeaways for landowners:
💡 “Leave what lives. Keep what covers. Remove what harms.”
💡 Dead wood is good wood
💡 If using the County’s Private Property Debris Removal service, mark items blue to indicate Do Not Remove
💡 As the landowner, you’re in charge! Set clear goals with contractors

📢 Join us on Friday, September 5 at the Comfort Public Library from 4-6PM for our next riparian restoration event.

A HUGE thank you to our partners who made these workshops possible: Texas Parks and Wildlife, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Comfort Area Foundation, Texas A&M Forest Service, Upper Guadalupe River Authority, Bandera County River Authority & Groundwater District, Texas Riparian Association, Kerr County Water Alliance, East Kerr/Center Point Riparian Recovery Committee, Hunt Preservation Society, Riverside Nature Center Association, Kerrville Urban Trail System, Schreiner University, Central Provisions, Tom Moore High School, and Trailhead.
