This is an important report that brings to light the often-overlooked challenges faced in U.S. prisons and jails. Here at MELJ Center, we support formerly incarcerated individuals in rebuilding their lives and reintegrating into society. We recognize the challenges they encounter, and research like this helps highlight issues such as prison conditions and sleep deprivation. Improving these factors could aid their successful transition back into communities.

A new report from the LBJ School's Prison and Jail Innovation Lab, "The Nightmare of Sleep in Prison," examines how chronic sleep disruption is widespread and overlooked in U.S. prisons and jails, with serious consequences for health, safety, and rehabilitation.

The report offers evidence-based recommendations for corrections agencies to improve sleep conditions without compromising safety or security.

MELJ Center is going to begin a weekly tradition: Quote of the Day or better known as QOTD, where we share a motivational message to you all! We hope these messages can spark important conversation and thoughts about our mission here at MELJ!

In today's quote from Nelson Mandela, he reminds us to challenge our ideas of what freedom truly means and what we can do in society to ensure true freedom and justice for all of society! At MELJ we aim to emulate his ideals and give previously incarcerated individuals the resources they need to truly live free in society.

If you also believe in the importance of rehabilitation, please consider donating to MELJ Center using the link in our link tree! Any donation can make a significant change in an individual's life.

The MELJ Center wants to wish everyone a Happy Black History Month! Through our work with formerly incarcerated and at-risk individuals we embody the legacy of Black leaders across history who fought for justice and believed in the power of redemption and second chances.

As Martin Luther King Jr said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." We hope you all take the time to engage in meaningful discussions about the ongoing fight for equality and justice in our society still.
