I was scammed. (long post alert)
I'm really embarrassed, but also sure that I need to say this publicly so that it may spare someone else some stress.
A while back I had sent out a bunch of resumes for jobs on Linkedin. Randomly a search company followed up via email alerting me to a fantastic job that was aligned with my skills. The lady explained she was with a search company (I looked up the company and saw that she was listed and thought it was legit). It started as an easy convo- are you interested in this or not, if so send your resume. I said yes and sent my pdf resume as an attachment. A day later she replies back and said yes your skills are aligned with this company but I have an incorrect file type - she wanted me to get an ATS format for my resume sent back to her asap, she gave a website that I could do that quickly. I went to the website, it looked legit, to change my resume it was $17 via paypal, so I did it and sent a message back saying it would be ready soon.
At this point I have some doubts so I google the name and a linkedin post explains the whole scam of how they do this. I feel like an idiot bc I just paid for this - so I quickly get a refund from paypal and sent a fraud report out.
All this being said, in these times when we are looking for new jobs to make more $, blah blah- if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
I feel really stupid and shameful that I fell for this, but also know that by hopefully letting my embarassed self be shown it might help someone else avoid this. I'm attaching the linkedin string so that you can see what I'm talking about.

Although my ⚫️🟡Iowa Hawkeyes⚫️🟡 didn’t win, it was a great game & a win for women’s sports!
All of us at the bar teared up 😭when the national anthem was sung, showing the flag being held by women NASA scientists 🧑‍🔬! Just knowing all those little girls out there in the world are growing up seeing powerful women represented is so inspiring 🙌. As a 🧬science geek & athlete myself, I sure would’ve liked a Caitlyn Clark to look up to as I was getting sexually discriminated & harassed throughout my career!
