“Hats” by Heiko Weiner represents an intersection between art and mathematics. This abstract wall sculpture utilizes a 13 sided shape known as “The Hat,” discovered by mathematician David Smith in 2022. Tiles cut in this shape can be used to cover any surface without ever creating a repeating pattern– something that had previously never been achieved with a single tile.
Using this shape, this piece uses walnut, cherry, yellow oak, maple, padauk and izombe woods. It comes with 3 hanger brackets and can be hung in any orientation desired.
