Just about a month ago, I packed up my car with my mom, Kirsten, and drove up to Alcoa, Tennessee the day before she would attempt her first ever 100 Mile race, the Pistol Ultra. Officially, I was one of her pacers, but I wanted to do more by documenting her journey. The two of us started running about 10 years ago and that quickly turned into a love for ultra running, which has led us all the way up to this weekend. There is no way to sugarcoat this: this weekend was HARD. We have both volunteered at plenty of ultra races, including 100 milers, so we knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park but it truly didn’t set in until we were in the thick of this race. All of this is to say that I am unbelievably proud of this woman. She set PRs left and right, and even though she didn’t hit 100 miles, she still set a new distance PR at 70 miles! Her determination was so inspiring and I can’t wait to document her journey more on her next attempt. @ Alcoa, Tennessee
