This Keynote of distinguished panelists will help us stay at the forefront of dismantling discrimination and advancing design justice and equity in the architectural profession. In order to achieve equity, we must embrace the uncomfortable conversations around racism and discrimination and prepare for the challenges we must work to overcome. Learn from the experiences of the panelists and uncover successful approaches for advancing design justice and making the built environment more equitable.

A journey back to Beau Frail’s, Activate’s Principal Architect, final studio project at UT Austin School of Architecture. This [centro de salud] was an exploration for a healthcare center in Quito, Ecuador’s Quitumbe neighborhood.

The region’s high childhood malnutrition and lack of access to hospitals informed the health center’s focus on community gardening and healthy eating education. The site sits along a creek and blurs the edges between nature, garden, and building. Generous hallway spaces and community meeting rooms embrace social engagement between health professionals and the community. Murals throughout the center encourage healthy eating and living.
