For more than five years since buying this property, I have lived with the constant fear that someone will show up claiming that my land belongs to them. Every year or two, another man arrives threatening to tear down my property, despite my having all the legal documents proving that I purchased and own this land. As a woman in Sierra Leone, owning property can come with unique challenges, and I cannot help but feel that I am being targeted simply because I am a woman.

There’s a new one right now, threatening to demolish my property tomorrow, and I get it Salone is unfair, but I really want to see if they can do this. Take somebody’s property and claim that it is theirs and actually have the rights to demolish a building that is standing.
