We feel incredibly lucky to have received the Michael C. Duda Award. Texas Historical Foundation was one of the first organizations to truly believe in us and in the work we were doing. It felt like everything began to fall into place not long after.
A preservation award that supports the building structure itself is so crucial, especially in the historic house museum world. So many people want to fund programming, collections, or smaller projects within a home. However, the structure of the historic house itself is our most important collection item, and this funding has been instrumental in getting us to the starting line.
The journey mattered as much as the outcome. With a historic property, there are endless nuances, and this has taken us a little longer than we first imagined. But we've now completed all of our architectural and structural drawings and are gearing up for the work itself.
We're planning to begin this fall, in late 2026. The plan: adding pier and beam to fortify the cellar walls, then securing the building from the cellar all the way up to the roof, stabilizing the west side of the house, and re-pinning and rebuilding the front of the west porch.
With deep gratitude to the Texas Historical Foundation for believing in this place.

Flower Hill has weathered nearly 150 Texas summers... but our AC didn't survive this one!
We're raising funds to replace our specialized HVAC system that protects our historic home, collections, and guests from the heat. Each unit runs ~$25K, and a generous donor already kicked us off with $5,000!
Donate $150+ and (if you're local) Natalie will personally drop off a colorful, Smoot-ish gift.
Tours are paused until we're back on the right side of the temperature gauge.

The Garage transformed into a master class when Austin Classical Guitar's youth ensemble joined French guitarist Gaelle Solal for an unforgettable afternoon. We're always honored to support these young musicians and our dear friends at ACG.
