Commissioner Buckingham released the following statement remembering our fallen heroes this Memorial Day:

"As Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office and Chairwoman of the Veterans Land Board, I am proud of the work we do every day to ensure Texas Veterans have access to the benefits they have earned through their service to our country.

While we do this work, we are reminded of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our nation.

Please join me on this day of remembrance as we honor those who sacrificed everything.

We are the home of the free because of the brave, and we must never forget that the freedom we cherish has always come at a cost."

Congrats to our VLB Outreach team for a successful weekend at the Big Country Veterans Expo in Abilene!

Over 150 Veterans attended this resource fair that we co-hosted with the Texas Veterans Commission to connect Veterans with the benefits and services they've earned.

In honor of Memorial Day, VLB Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announced that the headstones of servicemembers Killed or Missing in Action will be illuminated at the VLB's four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries.

From Friday, May 22nd, through Monday, May 25th, our cemeteries in Killeen, Abilene, Mission, and Corpus Christi will be open 24 hours a day for night viewing.
