Fun Twilight screening at the Paramount last night with Alice & Jasper, or Ashley Greene & Jackson Rathbone, both Austinites now, moderated by Hyperreal Film Club.
I saw Twilight for the first time in 2010 after touring with Bobby Long, who collaborated on a song in the film performed by Rob Pattinson, or Edward. Bobby’s long merch lines were full of sweet Twilight fans, some with books in hand. I lived in NYC at the time with no TV or downtime while constantly on the road most of the year, so I never watched the whole series until recently.
I had alotta free time the past couple years during this cancer ordeal and couldn’t sleep after the extra gut punch of losing Hazy. The series was streaming at my dad’s while I recovered, so I binged and it helped me through some sleepless nights. The soundtrack is killer, pun intended. I started reading the books and am still chipping away.
It’s a fun series that opened floodgates to other shows like True Blood, Vampire Diaries, What We Do in the Shadows, and of course the Vampires Suck spoof. Becoming immortal was jokingly my New Year’s resolution. I’m goth on the inside but something about all these immortal stories was an escape and oddly helped healing through some of this mess, especially after the recent big surgery.
Now, aside from writing new tunes, I’ve been writing some new wordy words. Maybe to accompany a solo release someday, maybe with a dreamy bookstore solo run with my dogs and Conway (the guitar, iykyk). What started as nonfiction mémoires has shifted inspirado to write fictional story escapes too. Not necessarily vampires, but some immortal themes in the mix. Guess with all my crud and world crud lately, my subconscious is offering alternate realities as a sorta coping mechanism to mend this fractured heart. Anyhoo, yea, thanks Twilight. Better late than never.

Thank you FOR ALL MANKIND, Bank Robber Music, and Rough Trade Publishing for including the original version of Harmony in the latest episode (season 5, episode 7) on AppleTV+. Never imagined my music would play in a bar on Mars. Got some Mars Bars and Milky Ways for the occasion.
Harmony was written for my late mom, who was a space fan and woulda loved this show. I was already binge watching it during treatment when I heard about this, helping heal my heavy heart. Please give the whole spacey series a spin. It’s a great escape. Humbled to be in the same orbit. 🚀🪐🎶💫
