Mower County Emergency Management

Just a reminder about the changes to our winter information since Hazard Simplification has started.
We'll just be using WINTER STORM WATCH, even if blizzard conditions are possible. We will include the expected hazards within the watch.
And we'll be using WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES, even during freezing rain scenarios.
Winter related warnings will not change. We'll still be using Ice Storm Warning, Blizzard Warning, or Winter Storm Warning depending on the main threat.

Two rounds of strong to severe storms are expected this afternoon and through the overnight hours. The first round is expected to impact mainly areas south of Interstate 90 this afternoon and evening, with ongoing storms moving in from the west, as well as additional isolated storms developing to the east of them. The timing and location of the second round will depend somewhat on how the first round plays out, but the current thinking is that areas mainly north of Interstate 90 will see the impacts during the overnight hours, as a line of storms moves southeast across the area. The main threats with both rounds appear to be damaging winds and heavy rainfall, though large hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Confidence is relatively low on how everything will play out, so be sure to keep up to date on our latest forecast.

Another round of severe thunderstorms is expected through this evening, mainly between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The threats will be isolated tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds. Please remain weather aware and know what you will do if a warning is issued for your area!
