Through IVF and the help of a gestational surrogate, their daughter Louise was born in September 2023.

Deeply touched by what the young child was experiencing, Thomas asked how he could help.

When his mother explained that donated hair can be used to make wigs, Thomas made up his mind immediately. He decided he would grow his hair for as long as needed to help a child in need.

For the next several years, Thomas stayed committed to his goal. Growing natural hair to that length takes patience, care, and strong determination.

Along the way, he faced challenges, including teasing at school and comments from people who did not understand why a young boy was growing his hair so long.

In June 2022, 17-year-old Addison Bethea was scalloping in waist-deep water near Keaton Beach, Florida, when a 9-foot bull shark suddenly grabbed her thigh.

After hearing her screams, her 22-year-old brother, Rhett Willingham, rushed into the water without hesitation. He began punching and kicking the predator until it finally let go of her.

Rhett, who was trained as a firefighter and EMT, quickly pulled Addison onto a boat and used a piece of rope to create a makeshift tourniquet. His fast action helped slow the bl**ding until emergency medical help arrived.

Addison was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, where doctors performed several emergency surgeries.

Because of the serious damage to her blood vessels and tissue, doctors later had to amput@te her right leg above the knee.

Despite the life-changing trauma, Addison survived the terrifying ordeal and has strongly credited her brother’s brave, quick response for saving her life.
