The Last Quokka's Dream
In the misty forests of Tasmania, beneath the ancient eucalyptus trees, lived a small quokka named Pip. Unlike his cousins on Rottnest Island who smiled for tourists, Pip lived in solitude, a forgotten guardian of the wilderness.
Every dawn, Pip would climb to the highest rocks, gazing toward the distant ocean. The other marsupials whispered that he was different—too curious, too restless. They were content grazing on native grasses, but Pip dreamed of something more.
One evening, a young wallaby named Luna found him staring at the stars. "Why do you look so sad?" she asked.
"I'm not sad," Pip replied, his whiskers twitching. "I'm wondering if there are other quokkas out there, in worlds beyond this forest. Do they dream like I do?"
Luna sat beside him in comfortable silence. She understood—the forest had changed. Fewer quokkas roamed these days. Fewer songs echoed through the valleys.
"Then we must make sure our dreams survive," Luna said softly.
From that night on, Pip and Luna became guardians of their forest, protecting the sacred places where young quokkas could grow strong. They taught the next generation to remember their heritage, their resilience, their joy.
Years later, when Pip grew old, he watched new quokkas thrive among the trees. His dream hadn't taken him to distant worlds—it had kept his world alive. And sometimes, that was enough.
