The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) released horrific findings on August 1st, 2024 from their investigation into the Texas Juvenile Justice Department’s (TJJD) five child prisons. This comes at a time when TJJD is currently working with the Texas Legislature on plans to build two new youth prisons.

Finish The 5 is a youth-led campaign co-founded by Austin Liberation Youth Movement and other partners. Our demands are:
1. Close the 5 remaining state-run youth prisons in Texas by 2030
2. Reinvest money into community-based alternatives and interventions
3. Advocate for policy that decriminalizes youth, such as Raise the Age and Raise the Floor

If you’re interested in getting involved with our campaign and fighting for youth prison abolition, REGISTER FOR OUR ADVOCACY DAY this Friday, July 12 from 10am - 4pm at the Texas State Capitol.

Our advocacy day will include trainings on storytelling and organizing, information about relevant juvenile justice policies in the upcoming legislative session, and meetings with legislative offices to discuss juvenile justice. This is a great opportunity to get involved in local abolitionist organizing and meet advocates from throughout Texas involved in this work.

Free lunch, snacks, and materials provided. Transportation must be arranged by participants. You must register by TONIGHT, especially if you are requesting any accommodations. Please DM us if you have any questions or concerns.
