When in Rome.

Literally. I was on a tour of ancient Rome when I asked the historian: what actually killed the empire?

Hyperinflation.

At the peak of the pandemic, the US hit 9% inflation. Your burger, your gas, your rent, all 9% more expensive than the year before.

But here's what most people don't catch: if inflation ran 9% and your salary didn't move, you didn't break even. You took a 9% pay cut without knowing it.

The paycheck looked the same. The purchasing power didn't.

The people who came out ahead owned assets, real estate, businesses, hard things, that inflate with the money supply instead of against it.

The SpaceX Effect.

The largest IPO in stock market history just happened 30 miles from downtown Austin.

$75 billion raised. $1.77 trillion valuation. Day one, the stock closed up 19%.

4,400 millionaires. 9 billionaires. 1 trillionaire. Not executives. Welders. Machinists. Cafeteria workers. Google's IPO created about a thousand millionaires. SpaceX did 4x that in one day.

1,600 employees on 1,000 acres in Bastrop County. An 11 million sq ft campus called the Gigasat. Bigger than Tesla's Gigafactory.

The same week, Apollo Global picked Austin as their second headquarters and said most of their future growth will happen here, not New York. $900 billion in assets.

This is what I'm calling the SpaceX Effect. And the map of Austin just changed.
