Most of us were trained extensively as performers, but almost none of us were trained to teach a student their first breath, first sound, and first notes.
This session is about the pedagogical tools many of us had to figure out the hard way.
If you teach beginners (or ever will), this one’s for you

Women in Saxophone 🎷 was a special concert for many reasons.
As Liz said so beautifully: for most of my life, I’ve been one of a only a few women in the saxophone section. I’ve always loved collaborating in every setting, but there is something uniquely powerful about sharing the stage with so many outstanding musicians who brought similar lived experiences to the music making.
It was especially meaningful to perform alongside students from 15 schools(!) and watch the next generation step into the space with confidence and artistry.
The saxophone world is evolving in so many ways, and it’s inspiring to see more voices represented on stage and in programming. I’m grateful to be part of that momentum here in Austin, where I live in work, in the Live Music Capital of the World.
Thank you to the students who shared the stage, the band directors, private teachers, and parents who shared their students with us, the incredible musicians I get to perform with, and the colleagues who helped bring the concert to life.
What a night ✨❤️🔥
