This week is the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in Washington DC. Organized by Shalanda Baker with the deep commitment of Secretary Jennifer Granholm Hilton Kelley. Many community leaders spoke about their experience including one of Climate Impact Capital and CIC Energy partners - Hilton Kelley a prominent environmental activist and community leader at COMMUNITY IN-POWER AND DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION INC in Port Arthur, Texas.

One of the key themes was and how that drives a virtuous cycle for the community. In Port Arthur, Lamar State College Port Arthur was involved in early community meetings and will be a key participant for future success.

DOE is an initiative that aims to deliver at least 40% of the benefits from certain federal investments in clean energy and environmental justice to disadvantaged communities. It is part of President Biden's executive order to tackle the climate crisis at home and abroad. DOE has identified eight policy priorities to guide its implementation of Justice 40, such as decreasing the energy burden, increasing clean energy access, and investing in America's workforce.
