Didier Queloz (Nobel Prize in Physics, 2019)

The morning of 8 October 2019 was not going well for physicist Didier Queloz.

“My day was really awful, I had a problem with my bike. I had to fix my bike and I was late. The day was starting really on the wrong foot. And then it turned in another direction after this phone call."

Queloz was in a meeting when his university press office called to tell him he had been awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics. He shared the prize with James Peebles and Michel Mayor.

“They asked me what I would do with the prize and I was so annoyed with the bike I said I’m going to buy a new bike!”
