When you opt for a fixed mortgage, your payments will not increase over time. So your housing cost will actually decline the longer you own your home. Keep in mind that property taxes and insurance cost will increase. Rent increases every year and is more expensive overtime. Austin rent climbed to over $1422 per month in early 2019. That is a 3.9% increase from 2018. Back in 2007, my parents had a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment in William Cannon for the price of $1050. Good luck finding that in 2020!
