R.I.P. LeRoy Irvin 🙏🏽
September 15, 1957 – July 2, 2026
Former NFL All-Pro cornerback LeRoy Irvin has passed away at the age of 68. A standout for the Los Angeles Rams throughout the 1980s, Irvin was known for his lockdown coverage, electrifying punt returns, and relentless competitiveness, establishing himself as one of the league's premier defensive players.
Many fans remember Irvin for his 10 seasons with the Rams, where he recorded 35 career interceptions and scored 11 touchdowns. A three-time First-Team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl selection, he also set an NFL record for the most punt return yards in a single game with 207 in 1981. After his time with the Rams, he finished his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, leaving behind a legacy of excellence on the field.
Irvin's passing was announced on July 2, 2026, by his former teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, who remembered him as "a true friend and a great man who always brought incredible energy." No cause of death has been publicly disclosed. Though he is gone, Irvin's impact on the Rams franchise and the game of football will continue to be remembered by teammates, fans, and future generations.
