Gold Country Wildlife Rescue

π₯π₯ Yesterdayβs Guess the Animal (What's in the Bag Edition) answer: a White-faced Ibis!
(We are betting Whole Foods Market never expected their bag might be used to help rescue such a gorgeous local bird!)
This particular bird was found near Sacramento International Airport, near I-5, down and seemingly unable to fly. While it was only the 3rd recorded White-faced Ibis patient for us here at GCWR, we actually received a 4th just a few weeks later, after it was found near Colfax on the 4th of July (both pictured here).

βπ It's time for another round of Guess the Animal β "What's in the Bag" edition! ποΈ
Wild animals show up at our door in all kinds of containers. Let's be honest, you don't exactly plan ahead for a wildlife emergency, so creativity is key! This mystery patient arrived in a Whole Foods bag, left open a crack at the top for airflow - dark, cozy, and just the safe, low-stress space it needed for the trip to our intake center.
Since you can't peek inside, here are your clues:
1οΈβ£ Shimmery feathers that flash bronze, green, and purple in the light β¨
2οΈβ£ Found only in the Americas π
3οΈβ£ Known to occasionally decorate their nests, usually found in dense marsh habitat, with human-made objects πͺΊ
Drop your guess below! π Come back tomorrow when we'll reveal the mystery critter tomorrow. π²
GOAL MET!? π¦π Yes, you read that right!
Just days ago we were $14,500 short of our Project 1991 Return of the Fawns goal, and you all came through in a BIG way. We are beyond thankful. Truly, you're incredible.
And to celebrate, here's a peek at some of our first herd members enjoying dinner time at the new bucket feeders in their brand new enclosure! πΌ
Every dollar raised beyond our goal isn't going to waste, it's going straight into ongoing fawn care. You didn't just fund an enclosure, you funded a home for generations of fawns to come.
Thank you for being part of this exciting legacy! β¨

π THE FAWNS HAVE MOVED IN! π
Huge news! Our brand new fawn enclosure is up and running, and it is already full of life!
For the first time in over a decade, GCWR is rehabilitating fawns from their very first bottle all the way to release. This is what our Project 1991: Return of the Fawns campaign has been building toward, and thanks to YOU, it is finally happening.
The enclosure is about 80% complete. Fencing, visual barriers, and hot wire are all in place, keeping our 2026 fawn herd safe and secure in their new home. And these babies wasted zero time getting comfortable: within days they were exploring every corner of their space, showing off wild instincts, and finding blackberry bushes they have been happily munching through!
GCWR was founded around fawn rescue back in 1991. Seeing fawns in our care again, start to finish, is a full circle moment we thrilled to share with you.
More fawns are arriving every week, so stay tuned. This is just the beginning. π
We are about $14,500 away from our goal to finish this project, and thanks to matching funds, your donation goes twice as far right now. Help us welcome the next fawns home by visiting and sharing our Go Fund Me: https://gofund.me/1d3e639ee
