Founded in 2018, CRED grew into one of India’s most important consumer companies. 17 million members, 40%+ of the country’s credit card bill payments, a $2.5 billion+ lending book, and a category it created from scratch eight years ago!

But the cheque isn’t even the most remarkable part! The man who built CRED, Kunal Shah, is leaving to run WhatsApp as its Global CEO for 3 billion users worldwide. One of the biggest seats in global tech, now held by an Indian founder.

A philosophy graduate from a Mumbai college, his story was never about the degree. It was grit, conviction, the patience to keep building when the easy exit was always on the table, and an instinct for categories before they exist. FreeCharge. A landmark sale. And now CRED!
