As the holiday weekend begins, it's more important than ever to reflect on the meaning of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s mission and the ongoing calls for racial justice, and to seek opportunities to bring communities a step closer to eradicating racism. The cable industry will play its part and continues its work towards creating safe and inclusive workplace cultures where all forms of diversity can thrive and flourish, and programming that truly represents and embraces racial equality.

State of Georgia Takes a Step Backward in Broadband Deployment
Rather than lowering the barriers to broadband deployment, the Georgia Public Service Commission is increasing them by dramatically raising pole attachment costs statewide — an action that defies the intent of House Bill 244 ‘to promote the deployment of broadband services in this state’ and the facts in this case. Failing to set reasonable pole attachment rates, terms and conditions will increase the overall cost of broadband deployment and discourage tens of millions of dollars in private investment. That’s a disappointment for every Georgia community that needs access to broadband. This is unfortunate because other southern states have established much more competitive pole attachment policies to attract private capital to expand broadband. The cable industry will review the PSC’s Order and consider its options.
The Cable industry continues to advocate for a more reasonable cost structure in our state to enhance broadband deployment opportunities for more Georgians — specifically as it relates to attaching their facilities to utility poles to connect communities and homes. Next Tuesday the Georgia Public Service Commission's decision related to their implementation of HB 244, which was passed to deploy more broadband, will determine if Georgia welcomes more private broadband investments.
