In the last issue of the Eagle, Fundraising Chairman Joe DeLisle '93 reminded us that Beta Psi has a long history of supporting our beloved Sigma Chi Chapter at Georgia Tech.
Over approximately 10 years, from the mid-1990s to the mid 2000s, our alumni
contributed over $2.5 million to support the Beta Psi Chapter. 🐝The fundraising materials attached to the article caused Ron Dubose '66 (executive director of the capital campaign) to have some nostalgic recollections:

"I did that as the first attempt to get started fundraising. I went around the house with my Nikon 35mm and made the pictures and then pasted it all together with comments. Charlie Lockwood suggested the “Bridge Builder” poem as the theme and Peter did the renderings. I got it all together and used a color copier to make about 30 copies that we sent our top candidates for support. Whoever found that has a rare edition." 💪📷

"After we got some money in the coffer, we did 2 or 3 color, glossy brochures that were mailed to everybody on the list. But the one you attached was very rare and only a few people ever saw it. Thanks for memorializing it and sharing it with the whole group! I still have the original somewhere."

Thanks to all our great alumni who made the new house and the Foundation a reality and thanks to those coming after as we look to grow the leadership impacts of the Beta Psi Sigma Chi experience.

A message from Beta Psi Foundation President Tom Turco on the recent Leadership For Life retreat that he recently attended:

I look back at my time as a student at Georgia Tech and an active Beta Psi Sigma Chi Brother. While much of who I am and became through the years is a result of the love, care and support from my parents and grandparents, my time in Beta Psi became quite the inflection point in my own development. This time gave me the confidence and opportunity to begin to understand and to develop my own sense of how to lead and be an effective leader. I look back at this time as critical to my own development, and in particular the successes I had throughout my career during the early years at Florida Power & Light, and my 28 years at Deloitte.

As I think about my own experiences, and look at the next generation of Leaders, it’s with great pride that I have the chance to participate in a Foundation that invests in the development of our future leaders through the Beta Psi Leadership for Life program. In early March I had the opportunity to observe and participate in this year’s Leadership for Life retreat led by Derek Porter and a committed group of Beta Psi Sig alumni leaders and mentors. This year’s program was the most well attended yet, with 82 of the 85 active brothers joining together along with 19 alumni leaders, pushing us to over 100 in total. The reality for those of us Beta Psi alums, and even most of us on the Foundation board, is that it’s difficult to really understand and experience the true value of our investments in Leadership. My participation in this year’s retreat changed that for me.

Having gone through many leadership development programs and coaching throughout my career and having been mentored by some great and accomplished leaders, the value that the active brothers of Beta Psi gain as they participate in four years of Leadership for Life during their time at Georgia Tech is very clear. This value I would say is an “exponential” jump start for these active brothers to understand and start the development of their own Leadership capabilities at a stage of life that most of us never had the opportunity to experience.

Leadership for Life is broken down into four groups, or Circles, each based on the number of years you participate in the program. From new first year brothers to graduating seniors, these future leaders focus on their own life experiences, a better understanding of their own values, the skills required to be an effective leader, the transition of leadership to maximize the performance of those around you, and the capabilities to better understand how to use these skills to advance your own life and career in a path that each individual is now armed to better define. Having now experienced this firsthand has further motivated my commitment to our Foundation, and the opportunity we have to continue to invest in these future leaders! 💪

The Beta Psi Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) foundation formed to accept tax deductible gifts for scholarship awards and leadership training for the worthy young men of the Bill George Beta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi at Georgia Tech. We have traditionally communicated by email, but have added social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) in an attempt to improve communication and reach and to appeal to some of our younger alumni. We use a software called Hootsuite that allows us to compose once and then post across multiple platforms. It also gives us analytics.

How are we doing across the first half of the year (as of 6/22/26)?

220 followers across all three platforms.
