Ricky James is considered one of the most exciting players in UBA history. He played the majority of his career for the Texas Cyclones and led them to two UBA Division Titles. He was a perpetual All-Star and one of the top scorer in the league, but he was also named to All-Defensive teams during his career.  James won two UBA titles with the Matrix (2012 & 2013).  In 2014, he was named Usbasket.com All-UBA co- Player of the Year while leading the league in scoring with a 27.0 point per game.  

Awards and Honors

Named an UBA All-Star in four of his five seasons in the league. In 2009, he won the UBA All-Star game Dunk Champion.  

Made the 2009-10 UBA All-Rookie Team and was selected to four All-UBA teams and two All-Defensive teams during his career.

James was named Usbasket.com All-UBA Conference Player of the year twice (2014, 2015).

Signed his first professional contract in Iraq-D1 for Nift Al-Janoub.  Was the league top scorer (28.3ppg). 

During the 2014-15 season, James set the Cyclones scoring record with 46 points versus the Houston Havok.  

James is UBA ranked #6 (Scoring), #5 (Steals), #4 (Assists). 

Points of Interest

James helped led Trevecca Nazarene to the Sweet Sixteen in 2008. He was later named All-Conference for the second time.

In 2007, James was named All-TSC Tournament Team Most Valuble Player.  

James was named AsiaBasket.com All-Iraqi League back-to-back seasons.

In 2015, James signed to play for Bundaberg Bull of the Australian League.  James would average an impressive 23.2 points per game.

"Ready" Freddie Williams is considered one of the most exciting players in UBA history. He played the majority of his career for the GIE Maile Matrix and led them to four UBA title (4 international). He was a perpetual All-Star and one of the top scorer in the league, but he was also named to All-Defensive teams during his career.  Williams was featured with Jermaine Barnes in the 2012 Slam Magazine feature story 'More than A League".  He would make the final roster stop in the 2012 FIBA Jones Cup for Team USA (Silver Medal Winner).  Williams career achievement was being named UBA League MVP in 2016.  He averaged a career best 25.8 points per game for the Matrix.

During the 2015-16 season, Williams was named to the UBA Most Valuable Player.  He averaged an impressive 25.8 points per game for the Matrix.

Mike Sloan is considered one of the best guards and one of the most clutch players in UBA history. He played the majority of his career for the Southern Generals and led them to the 2011 UBA title. He was a perpetual All-Star and a top scorer in the league, but he was also named to All-Defensive teams during his career. Sloan would be one of the early call-up players of the UBA power era. He would sign with Hottur Egilsstadir of the Subway Super league of Iceland (2012). He would be the leagues top scorer with an average of 29.8 points per game. After an impressive showing in Europe, Sloan would sign to FIBA Americus. One of the top global events in the world.

Awards and Honors:

- Sloan was named an UBA All-Star in seven of his eight seasons in the league. In 2011, he won the UBA All-Star game Most Valuable Player award.

- Sloan made the 2009-10 UBA All-Rookie Team and was selected to seven All-UBA teams and three All-Defensive teams during his career.

- Sloan won two UBA championships in 2011 and 2012. He was the Southern Conference Player of the year in 2011.

- Sloan played in two FIBA sanction events over his playing career. Liga SudAmericana and FIBA Americus. He averaged an impressive 17.8 points per game.

- During the 2014-15 season, Sloan was named to the UBA Most Valuable Player. He averaged an impressive 25.0 points per game for the Atlanta Legends.

Points of Interest:

- Sloan led the Clayton State Lakers to the Sweet Sixteen in 2008 and had his number 22 retired by the university in 2020.

- In 2020, CSU inducted Mike Sloan into the Laker Hall of Fame.

- Sloan was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team twice along with All-Tournament Team honors as a junior and senior.

- In 2012, Sloan was named Eurobasket.com All-Icelandic Player of the Year.

Polk County Royals celebrate UBA title

DB Atlanta Evolve. - Florida Royals 100-105

Florida Royals claimed UBA title as they swept DB Atlanta Evolve in the Finals. Royals made 20-of-24 free shots during the game, while Evolve only scored nineteen points from the stripe. Royals had a 37-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Royals made 9 blocks. 31 personal fouls committed by Evolve helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Finals MVP Joe Stubbs (6'4''-G, college: Keiser) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-15 shooting from the field). Swingman Cyrus Barnes (6'3''-F, college: BMC) contributed with 14 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Domont'a Wright (6'8''-F/C-1999, college: Cleveland St.) replied with 21 points (6 blocks) and point guard DeMierre Black (6'1''-PG, college: Columbus St.) added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Atlanta. Four Fire and five Evolve players scored in double figures.

"Resilience seems to be a common narrative in the toughest moments for us. The final game showed us why we have learned how to win despite being out of our comfort zone. Go Royals!!", said Royals Head Coach Dee Howard.
