When you scroll our page, you’ve probably seen Klondike mentioned—but do you know how it all began? ⚡️
Meet Gordy 👷♂️—former lineman and Georgia Power retiree—whose legacy of service, leadership, and training helped shape generations of linemen across Georgia. After joining the National Guard 🇺🇸 at 18, Gordy began his Georgia Power career in 1979 in Substation Construction. 🏗️ He moved to Distribution in 1980, working his way up to lineman by 1984. 💪 Along the way, he discovered something special: a passion for training and developing apprentices.
That passion led him to Klondike in 1998 as a Methods & Training Specialist, where he later advanced to Training Coordinator and eventually Distribution Training Supervisor. 📚⚙️ During his time at Klondike, Gordy helped create impactful programs like the Lineman Development Program, Electrical Lineworker Apprentice Certificate, and an Underground System Safety Program—leaving a lasting mark before retiring in 2025. 👏
His influence lives on at Klondike and across Georgia. Thank you, Gordy, for building the future—one lineman at a time 🔌⚡️
Earth Day is a reminder that small actions can make a big impact. Through our partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, retired utility poles are finding new life as nesting sites for American Oystercatchers, a Species of Greatest Conservation Need in Georgia. Efforts like these reflect our commitment to supporting conservation efforts across the state. We’re proud to play a role in conserving Georgia’s coastal bird habitats for generations to come.🌿🌎
Big smiles, little hands, and a whole lot of appreciation🥹🫶
For linemen appreciation month we spent the day at Baldwin Elementary, showing students what it takes to keep the lights on. And honestly… they left with the best thank-you cards around 🥹💙
Who knows… we might’ve found our future linemen 👀⚡️
Teamwork in action at Prater’s Mill! 🌳💧 Our team members joined The Nature Conservancy, Whitfield County, and other organizations to plant 150 trees and install hundreds of live stakes—helping stabilize the restructured stream banks and protect this historic site along Coahulla Creek.
Through our Waters for Georgia Grant Program — which has awarded nearly $4 million since 2019 — the Georgia Power Foundation invests in projects that restore waterways, reduce erosion, and preserve Georgia’s natural and cultural heritage.
As a nonprofit funded solely by shareholder dollars, the Foundation is proud to help make meaningful projects like this possible across our state to keep Georgia’s waterways healthy and communities strong.
The proactive restoration at Prater’s Mill helps safeguard an important historic landmark while opening new habitat for stream species in Northwest Georgia. This is what investing in Georgia’s environment and communities looks like! 🌿
