Happy 🌎 Day! I’m reminded today of a project I’ve been privileged to work on as a Writer / Director. “The Aquatics” is a fun show about a guarded but enterprising young woman who decides to start a vlog about the importance of the world’s oceans and the value they bring to our lives.
•
Let today be a reminder that we have been given the gift of intelligence and self-awareness so that we can understand that we have one home to live on - Earth. We are the stewards of this gentle beast of a planet and we should act accordingly.
•
And while we’re at it, let’s remember that we are all part of this planet. Which means we should take care of each other, too.

Playing with lens filters lately after learning about a cinematography technique known as “veiling” - heard of it?
•
Basically, you try to conceal your subject to suggest something about their hidden nature. It could be to create mystery or confusion around the subject. Or it could be to suggest innocence that hasn’t been tarnished.
•
Any number of ways to do it. You could literally put a veil on the subject (like a bride at a wedding or a Muslim woman). You could use the set to hide their face (like with walls or cleverly placed objects) or you can use reflections in glass to hide part of them.
•
In this case I’m using a prism to create reflections or illusions around these plants. What do these effects say to you?

Crafting a virtual show for . Virtual shows became a way of life for me in 2020. Some people don’t like them. Personally, I find there’s some advantage to being able to control the perspective and smooth out the rough edges but I know many folks (especially my friends in theater) miss the experience that comes from a live production. What do you think? Should we keep doing virtual productions post-pandemic?
