Sometimes I tell my students they need to get a little uglier in their improvisation. To let go, get messy, and move without judgment. That can be hard for dancers, especially when they’re so used to being in front of a mirror. But just like in life, that’s often where growth happens. Sometimes you have to embrace the awkward, messy, even “ugly” phases to unlock a new level of beauty and confidence.
