One day after more than 14 inches of rain triggered catastrophic flooding in Perkinston, Mississippi, the water is finally beginning to slowly recede along Red Creek.
At Perk Beach RV Park, high-water marks remain visible on posts throughout the property. Several RVs are still surrounded by standing water, a reminder of just how quickly this flooding unfolded. Residents here were forced to escape by boat, swim to safety, and in some cases take refuge in trees while waiting for rescue.
The danger may be easing, but the recovery is just beginning.

🚩 Dangerous rip currents are hammering much of Florida’s coastline right now, from Pensacola Beach to the Atlantic Coast. The highest threat zones stretch across the Panhandle and Florida’s east coast, where persistent onshore flow and rough surf are creating life-threatening conditions in the water.
Pensacola Beach remains under a HIGH rip current risk through at least Friday. Even experienced swimmers can quickly get into trouble when exhaustion sets in against these currents.
Florida has already seen dozens of rescues and multiple deaths tied to rip currents during this recent stretch of dangerous surf.
🚩 Know the flags. Stay near lifeguards. And if you’re caught in a rip current don’t fight it. Swim parallel to shore.
