Swipe through for a treat! Did you know that 95% of my cakes are dreamed up from imagery that is completely non-cake related? Even when I use industry techniques like vintage piping or buttercream florals to achieve my designs, they are completely custom for my amazing clients who send me images they love. There’s an endless pool of inspiration out there, some seem impossible and will leave you stumped, but may we look outside of the cake feedback loop and create new things! I hope these few examples inspire you to try to find your voice.

This weekend we celebrated the birthdays of 6 friends and threw a costumed Monster Prom for the ages! I based the cake off the beautiful invitation she illustrated. Swipe to see the inspo, sketches and cake reaction 🖤🖤 Flavors were: top tier hummingbird with lemon cream cheese frosting and bottom tier was red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Hope this post also illustrates how you can use techniques and styles that exist and turn them into something completely unique using inspiration from other places.

This is my submission to the art challenge I set up in my last post called Make This In Your Style! I challenged artists of all mediums and fields to do a replica or interpretation of this cake (or the other in the same post) and then show it to us using the hashtag and tagging me in the caption so I can show it off to my audience! I’m trying to encourage folks to shout each other out and inspire eachother in order to cleanse the bad energy that many creative fields can have with people not being honest about replicas and profiting off the hard work of creators. Let’s show everyone how cool it is to build community and discover new artists.
I made this cute keychain using shrink paper (second slide) and I would love to mail it to the winner of my challenge wherever you may be! On April 13th I will do a random draw of the winner from all the people who participate 🥰🥰
Hopefully after this other folks will be inspired to set the same challenge to their audiences using their own original art for others to interpret.
