Starting May 1, outdoor burning of yard and land-clearing debris will be prohibited in Coweta and 53 other Georgia counties as part of the state's annual summer burn restrictions.

The ban, in effect through Sept. 30, helps reduce air pollution and wildfire risk. Violators could face fines.
