Sen Tim Scott is a quiet giant of a leader in the US Senate. His story is remarkable and his family is honorable. We need to lift up and promote leadership like his at all levels of government.

My grandfather left school after 3rd grade to pick cotton. He never learned to read, but he taught us so much about what's really important.

My mom worked 16 hour days as a nurse's assistant to keep food on the table for my brother and me. Her love and sacrifice were immovable forces in our lives.

My brother just retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 30 years in the Army. His son, my nephew, has degrees from Georgia Tech and Duke, and is now headed to medical school at Emory.

Our nation certainly faces challenges, but my family shows what is possible in our great nation. We went from cotton to Congress in one lifetime - only in America.

PERSUASION v COMPROMISE - What is the difference? Recognizing you're not always right, or in control, and having to find a way to win part of your goal, while working with the other side. Leadership is getting somewhere one step at a time and bringing people together.

TESTED & PROVEN LEADERSHIP | do you agree with Gov Perry?

When asked what kinds of challenges tested him and made him a better leader, he gave a very infamous example where good intentions are secondary to having character in the process.
