Legacy! Bubblin ‘99-‘00

The dancers from Morris Brown College — especially the “Brown Sugar” team — were already putting on a show 🔥

Back in the late 70s and 80s, they hit the field in that bold orange and brown, moving with precision, attitude, and style that couldn’t be taught — only felt.

This wasn’t just halftime…

This was confidence.
This was culture.
This was Black college excellence in full display.

The music, the band, the crowd — and then them.

Every step had presence.
Every routine had purpose.

And if you were there… you already know:
they didn’t just dance…

they shut it down.

Choreo University has officially launched the HBCU Dance Auditions & Workshops Directory, a curated hub designed to help dancers & families find opportunities, plan early, and prepare strategically.

For the first time, dancers and families can explore HBCU audition dates, workshops/clinics, and prep opportunities in one place instead of surfing Beyonce’s Internet & social media all over the place & last minute or relying on hear se.

This is about access, preparation, and intention‼️

Whether you’re:
• researching teams
• mapping your audition season
• preparing months in advance
• supporting a dancer’s goals as a parent or coach

This hub was built for you.

Coach-spiration ✨
Prentice Garrett, former SU , NFL Cheerleader & NBA Dance speaks on her experience as a Doll & the influence of her captains (Dtara & Jessica) to be disciplined & accountable at the 2024 .aux.dance.directors conference.

Question: What did you learn from your coaches?

At Southern University 2009, captains were the leaders for Dancing Dolls so their influence was paramount!

Prentice shared that practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent. Every rep, every count, every clean run-through is a reflection of discipline. Through repetition and reinforcement, she learned that consistency builds confidence, and accountability keeps you growing…not just as a dancer, but as a leader.

Leaders don’t just teach the steps — they shape the standard.

Tag a teammate who taught you what sisterhood looks like. One you maybe looked up to…veteran or captain⁉️

Become a member of the HBCU Auxiliary & Dance Directors Association, see you at the 2026 Conference, March 26-29 in Atlanta!
